Welcome to my blog! Stay tuned!
My name is Jonas Trummer and I’m the Early Stage Researcher #1 (ESR#1) of the great European Joint Doctorate Food Science program that specializes in brewing technology.
I’m enrolled at the University of Agriculture in Krakow as my main university and at the University of Gent as my second university.
After receiving the conformation of my sucessfull application for the program everything went so fast. I had only one month till moving to another strange city and to begin a totally different life!
Excitement made it feel like a heartbeat and I found myself in the beautiful city of Krakow with the first training ahead. This training, that lasted for 3 weeks, brought all eight researchers of the program together for the first time. We got to know each other, were taught in several fields of presentational/rhetorical skills and were introduced to the whole supervision committee. First mentors were assigned, everyone was able to introduce themselves to their supervisors and research plans were started.
Not even two months later the whole ESR family met up again. This time we had the pleasure to be in Berlin for a three weeks training at VLB Berlin, one of our partner institutions. We were taught in the field of micromalting, process automatisation, beverage packaging and management in beverage companies. Additionally it was amazing to meet new people related and fascinated with beer research and the beer industry.
But nevertheless, I’m always happy to come back to my new home Krakow and keep going on with my own research.
The topic that I’m assigned to is called: Evaluation of innovative raw materials suitable for production of high quality malt and beer.
At the beginning of the program I was checking which raw materials have not been researched in a big extent and would be new to the market. So I chose a special raw material for malting and beer production and now I’m in the middle of research and checking the suitability of it.
As much as it looks promising right now, I can’ t tell any further details and will keep it a secret 🙂 You will get to know more as soon as the first publication gets out! So stay as curious as I am and follow our interesting blog on this page with more scientific topics to follow!
All the best!
